There are also 5 golf courses, an equestrian center, the protected Marjal de Pego National Park and it is 15 km from Dénia (gastronomic city registered by UNESCO since 2015). Denia is located in a bay at the foot of the imposing Montgó mountains. In the middle of the bay is the port of Denia, surrounded by palm trees. Despite its importance, it has preserved the atmosphere of a typical Mediterranean fishing port. From here you can take a ferry to the Balearic islands of Mallorca and Menorca, which can be reached in about three and a half hours. On the hill above the port is the impressive medieval fortress 'El Castillo', built in the 11th and 12th centuries and later expanded. The castle towers offer a magnificent view of the coast and, especially during the summer season, concerts are often held in the castle.
